1921 unlucky pioneer parents charged with manslaughter for not seeking medical assistcce

Mr. Edwin and Mrs. Isabel Rainey of Blackfalds, who had been given care of Chester W. Woodley on promise of employmenton their farm, charged with manslaughter after Chester died from pneumonia.


The Raineys and the Wooleys believed that "since God took care of their souls, he would also take care of their bodies."


But Chester died. Dr. Collision examined the body.


the Raineys also suffered poor luck or judgement.

a son killed a beaver and thus was subject to arrest.

another accidentally killed a sister with rifle

broken toe

fingers cut off

blood poisoning set in when Edwin injured his ankle.
