Alberta joined BNA Act in 1870

Alberta as part of the NorthWest Territories became part of Canada in 1870, when the Canadian government obtained Rupert's land from the British government

Usualy it is said that Canada bought Rupert's land from the HBC but that company did not have the land to start with.

however its control was severed, with compensation paid by the British government, and then the land thereby freed up was transferred to Canada. and thereby was taken under the British North America Act.

Alberta eventually becoming a province in Canada in 1905, in boundaries composed at that time.

see Montopedia blog "What was Alberta called before 1905?"
