An interesting form of STV is "bottom's up" STV where there is no quota and no non-elected and non-eliminated candidates except the very last one.
The bottom-ranking candidate is eliminated on each count until only most popular ones remain, when the number of candidates equals the number of seats to be filled.
no worry about quota and whether it is "Hare" or Droop, so easier to sell perhaps.
possibly involved more counts than normal STV (although generally in Canadian STV elections the end came when all but the winners were eliminated anyway)
likely more dis-proportionality arising from surplus votes retained by initially most popular candidates.
so some advantages and some disadvantages.
