Effective Voting is a must for a proper democracy

By not wasting many votes and seeing that each substantial group has is fair share of the seats, proportional representation does produce equality of effectiveness of voting.

Tasmania STV campaigner Catherine Helen Spence used to use the term Effective Voting for PR, and she noted that even the less-political people she talked to could see that under FPTP much of the voting was ineffective.

She found that the term struck a chord with people who had witnessed so many votes cast for a second-ranking party in a district being disregarded and having no effectiveness at all.

And that is true today. For a proper democracy, we should have equally effective votes as much as possible - with each casting 1/10,000 of a seat or whatever.

Thanks for reading.
