Equalization payments to Quebec, eh?

A recent Edmonton Journal Letter to editor says that Quebecois enjoy heavily-subsidized day care and other services and says that that proves they do not need equalization payments from Alberta which does not have these things.

The proper lesson to draw is that Quebec pays for these things with its high income tax.

Alberta could have these things too if we adopted Quebec's high income taxes.

Heck, we could have them if adopted Saskatchewan's tax levels.

And no the provincial sales tax is not the way to go. We want to create a circular economy where Albertans sell to Albertans. To do this we need Albertans buying. We want to encourage spending (keep low prices on goods for working families), not put a tax on their spending.
