1894-1895 or (or 1895-1895 (accounts vary)

Inspired by Bellamy's book, Looking Backward, 2000-1887.

Established with the goal “own and operate manufactories, to acquire land, to build houses for its employees; to insure the employees against want, or the fear of want; and to maintain harmonious social relationships on the basis of cooperation.”

despite its aspiration to be an industrial centre, it started as farm,

suffered agricultural problems in part due to its location in the cold North West.

broke up, in part due to rancorous and time-wasting meetings.

Part of the dissension apparently arose from persuasive anarchist teaching done by Tacoma tailor Andrew Klemencic.

Three of Glennis's founders tried again at the Home Colony, Key Peninsula. Klemencic must have been very convincing as the Home Colony that they then built is described as "an intentional community based on anarchist principles," not socialist or "Nationalist", as Glennis had been.

"Socialist Colony of Glennis Washington"

This was about the time that the Soldiers Home in Orting & the County Poor Farm just outside Sumner were built as well..."
