Horse Hills - one of oldest place names in Edmonton

Horse Hills was first used in 1810s. Horses were pastured at the location by the HBC perhaps when the fort was at today'ssite of Fort Saskatchewn but for sure the name was in use after the fort was estalbished permanently at Rossdale in 1812.

worth a visit to see farmland right inside Edmonton corporate limits.


Great farmland.

W. Clark got great crop of potatoes from his farm at Horse Hills. one potato weighed five-and-a-half pounds. Eight of the weighed 17.5 pounds (Edmonton Bulletin, Oct. 10, 1898, p. 1)
