How many members is enough?

1.209,000 times 3.616 = 4.371M

in discussion on Wales ER, someone said the number of members is sometimes set by the cube root rule.

That writer said Wales should have 147 members.

It has 60, possibly moving to 96 in next election.

147 X 147 X 147 = 3.2M,, approx the pop of Wales

Alberta under this rule would have 163 MLAs.

163 X 163 X 163 = 4.331M

actual pop. 4.371

today Alberta has much less than it would have if simple cubed was the rule.

it has 87 members.

it apparently uses rule of cubed times 6.6

87 X 87 X 87 X 6.6 = 4.371M (exactly right for Alberta pop. today)

87 x 87 x 87 = 660,000

today Wales, with 3.2M pop., has far less than cube root.

60 x 60 x 60 = 216,000

216,000 X 6.6 = 1.4M

if cubed times 6.6 (like in Alberta) was the rule, Wales should have 79 members.

485,000 times 6.6 = 3.2M

79 X 79 X 79 = 493,000 approx. 485,000

Wales with proposed 96 members

96 x 96 x 96 = 885,000 times 3.616 = 3.2M

Alberta

106 x 106 x 106 = 1,191,000

1.209,000 times 3.616 = 4.371M

so with the cubed times 3.616 rule, Alberta should have 106 members or so.
