John Cusack character(s) fights growing up in series of three films

Tom Monto

Updated: Aug 3, 2024

John Cusack shows his "John Cusackness" best in a sort of triology of three films --

Say anything

Grosse Pointe Blank

High Fidelity.

this is the story at least according to one film appreciator:

Certainly I find it hard to see him as an action figure as in Con Air.

Tanya

(I actually got on to this article looking for who Tanya (played by Jenna Elfman of Dharma and Greg fame) was. I dont remember her in the GPB film. But it has been a while.

Found it - she's the one in the full(ish) body cast --

=====

Grosse Point Blank music

"Go" by Tones on Tail

joes Strummers cover of Willi Williams' "Armagideon Time".

(I have to check out the original)

Violent Femmes "Blister in the Sun"

melody of this song is from old jazz song "Collard greens and black-eyed peas"

check it out

Perhaps similar thing in smaller sense is seen in two movies by Bill Nighy:

he plays a rock star in the films Still Crazy (1998) and also in Love Actually (2003).

I hope to check out the BBC radio dramas Charles Paris Mysteries where Bill plays a gumshoe.
