MPs elected by minority, meh

District results of 2019 federal election

showing the large number of MPs elected with only a minority of the votes in their districts.

This list shows 162 MPs elected with only a minority of support in their districts. 104 elected with proven majority support.

A ratio of three to two of minority representatives against majority representatives.

Proportional representation is supposed to nurture minority representation but that is the good kind of minority representation. All proportional systems would see a majority get more votes than the minority.

When a minority can control who goes to the House of Commons against the will of the majority something is wrong.

Some Ontario districts were not surveyed due to time restraints. But it seems likely that they too would show a large number of MPs elected without proven support of a majority of their constituents.
