NDP rural possibilities not as bleak as people say

Tom Monto

"The result was a crumbling of her rural support in 2019, with just two seats beyond Edmonton and Calgary going the NDP’s way.

Jason Kenney’s United Conservatives swooped into power, electing 63 members to the NDP’s 24."

Actually no, NDP rural support did not crumble that much

- still a third of rural voters (voters outside Edm and Calgary) voted NDP (at least that was the case in 2013)

it was just our election system that made it look like Rachel had so little support.

And in 2019, Kenny did not sweep into power with overwhelming support.

He got just 55 percent of the vote, so was due just 48 seats,

but his party got 72 percent of the seats!
