as previously pointed out about some other European election,

despite much ballyhoo about upsurge in far right vote,

under PR

in Netherlands, as in that other case,

the PVV, Party for Freedom, the largest party, got only 37 seats, well short of majority position.

its 24 percent of the vote was enough to take the most seats in the parliament but, held to 37 seats in 150-seat chamber, it was not close to getting majority.

it seems much less fear of far right minority taking power under PR than under FPTP.

almost all of our federal majority governments in Canadian history have been false-majorities, won by a party with minority of votes.

In Netherlands no one party has taken majority of seats since PR adopted

so there is no fear of a false-majority wielded by a single party.

2023 Netherland vote turnout 78 percent

much higher than Canada's
