PR's allies among its government leaders and population - real, imagined and potential

We do have allies!

the Gov-General Mary Simon in every speech talks of the need to hear from those previously not heard, from what I have seen anyway.

Ray Martin, former leader of Alberta NDP, has written on need for PR.

historically labour groups have been among first to adopt PR cause.

Earl Grey was described by his contemporaries as a perfect fanatic on subject of PR. before becoming Gov-Gen of Canada in 1904, he held a STV election among coal miners in Britain.

Canada's labour federation the TLC held STV election for its executive about 1902.

labour is our natural allies.

but also Conservatives

if they start to suffer from lobsided plurality elections would/should give PR their support, which would give them at least their due share of seats.

it seems to be why some cities got PR - to prevent labour from gaining unfair upper hand under plurality elections.

but then when business felt it was held back by PR and pushed for shift to plurality, it was labour that opposed the move. at least it was that way in Edmonton in 1927.

Andrew Coyne is one of the most strident call-ers for electoral change in the country.
