Roper and William Irvine  Personal Message 1942. (Roper's candidate message for the 1942 Edmonton provincial by-election. It contains the "CCF-Labor" platform and a biography of Roper by Irvine). (Weinrich 2476)

As a CCF candidate, Roper won the by-election. His success helped cause Aberhart and the SC leadership to dislike PR, apparently. Roper was re-elected in 1944, 1948 and 1952. After PR was dropped in Edmonton in 1956, no CCF or NDP MLA was elected in Edmonton until 1982.
