A little birdie has sent me the link to the Canada Post manual.

It says mail to the MP is free. And mail to other govenrment officials is free as well. Both under certain conditions.

Here is the relevant section:

Government Mail Free of Postage allows for mail to be sent to and from the following individuals free of postage provided that both the sender and receiver are in Canada:

  • the Governor General

  • the Speaker or Clerk of the Senate or House of Commons

  • the Parliamentary Librarian or the Associate Parliamentary Librarian

  • Members of the Senate

  • Members of the House of Commons (see section 2.1 Parliamentary mailings using Neighbourhood Mail™)

  • the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner or Senate Ethics Officer

  • the Director of the Parliamentary Protective Service

  • the Parliamentary Budget Officer.

When sending letter to an MP's constituency office, be sure to put "Member of Parliament" and "constituency office" in the address.

Someone else said she was pretty sure MLA mail is free too. But that is still an unknown.

Hope this is of use.

it is true to say now on June 15 that BC is an hour behind us in Alberta (excepting pars of BC that run on Alberta time) but is Alberta an hour earlier or an hour later than the majority of BC? well..
