WASTE -- FPTP disregards will of majority of voters in the district again and again

In the last Edmonton city election (2025), only 2 of the 13 elected members (mayor plus 12 city councillors) were elected with majority of votes cast in the ward (or city-wide in the mayor's case). The other 11 were elected with just a minority of votes cast in the district (or city-wide for the mayor's case). The mayor was elected with 39 percent of the vote across the city.

In the last Calgary city election (2025), only three of the 15 elected members (mayor plus 14 city councillors) were elected with majority of votes cast in the ward (or city-wide in the mayor's case). The other 12 were elected with just a minority of votes cast, with winner's percentage as low as 27 percent for two councillors, and the mayor himself elected with just 26 percent of votes cast across the city.
